Mariah Covers Us Weekly
Us Weekly - November 15, 2010 Issue
Mariah Carey tells Us about overcoming miscarriage and expecting a little one with hubby Nick Cannon By Eric Andersson
On a recent morning in the New York City home she shares with Nick Cannon, Mariah Carey tells Us she felt at peace. "Nick was sleeping. I was lying in bed next to him," says Carey, who, on October 28, finally confirmed the news that Us was first to break: She's expecting her first child. "I was like, Oh, this is a real feeling of contentment."
Getting there wasn't easy. After their six-week courtship and April 2008 wedding, Carey, 40, got pregnant. But early in her second trimester, she suffered a miscarriage. The singer cried herself to sleep many nights, but she and Cannon, 30, host of NBC's America's Got Talent, didn't give up. Carey began taking progesterone, a hormone that is often prescribed to boost fertility and support or help maintain pregnancy in women susceptible to miscarriage — and earlier this year, they conceived. With their baby due this spring, Carey, whose album Merry Christmas II You is out now, and Cannon open up to Us' Melanie Bromley.
Congratulations! How do you feel?
MC I'm very happy. But there's other stuff that comes along with pregnancy, physically: I'm sleepy and in a constant state of nausea! I can kind of control it if I just calm down and don't throw up. It's not great for a singer to throw up! My little trick is Dr. Brown's soda. It's syrupy, so that helps.
Tell Us how you found out you were pregnant.
MC We were at home in L.A. and I did a pee test, and then I did another and another. At one point I had, like, a collection in my bathroom! Those things aren't always accurate. I'm about taking blood and all that, really. So I was like, Let me just make sure.
What made you take a test? Had you missed a period?
MC Yeah. We had been trying, so every month we checked. I did the first test alone, then I showed Nick. We were both really excited, and then I said, "Come on, let's do another one!" And that's how it went.
NC We had all these pregnancy tests around that said yes, yes, yes. It was cool! Just seeing the joy on Mariah's face was priceless. Knowing everything that she went through, it was wonderful. Obviously, I was happy for our child, but even more so, to see her relief and excitement was awesome.
Did you cry?
NC We definitely cried! We still cry all the time. It's an emotional journey. Every time we hear some news about the baby, it's so emotional. We love it.
It must have been an amazing moment, especially after going through the miscarriage two years ago.
MC When we first got pregnant back then it was quick, so we just assumed everything would be easy.
NC At that point, we had been married a little more than a half a year, and everything was going as planned. It was all wonderful, and then we were hit with a devastating blow out of nowhere. It was around the holidays, and we have other family members who have little babies... Seeing other people with their families when we were just preparing to create ours took its toll.
MC It was kind of tough, because I had to go through two medical procedures after that. I didn't share what happened with anybody. Nobody in my family knew. I was a little bit depressed, and Nick and I went through that alone. It really did strengthen our relationship.
How did you get through that time?
NC We both have a spiritual foundation, and she tapped into that. She read the Bible every night before she went to sleep. She prayed and spent time meditating and focusing within.
MC It's making me very emotional even to think about it, but he was very strong for me.
NC To heat that is suprising, because I was always enamored by how well she was handling it. We had already started doing the planning, and then suddenly that goes away and you have to continue on with your life.
MC That's what being with the right person means. It's not just when everything is fantastic. It's when you go through the ups and downs and you don't really know the outcome. And, thank God, everything was all right and the doctor wasn't saying, "You can't get pregnant." At least it wasn't that type of a situation.
When did you feel like you could try again?
NC It wasn't a set date. We just took it one day at a time. The doctor didn't want her to be stressed. When women want to have children, they often focus on just that. So I encouraged her to work on another album to get her mind off it.
MC I dove into my music.
NC I would always say, "It's in God's hands. God will give us a child when the time is right." And our sex life is amazing, so it could be any month. We were always practicing!
There are reports that you did IVF to get pregnant. Did you use fertility methods, besides taking progesterone?
NC No, not at all. But Mariah had acupuncture, all over her body. I think it helped her quite a bit, because it was a good destressor. She had it done once a day!
How else did you help her stay calm?
NC I feel like it's my husbandly duty to make sure nobody stresses her out! We spent a lot of time eating popcorn in bed, watching our favorite DVDs: Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown, every season of The Wite. And we would watch Bruno over and over!
Nick's so attentive!
MC He always does stuff for me. The other day, he came home with some flowers and butterfly balloons from this really cute place — and a pizza! We're in New York now after spending so much time in L.A., and with all due respect to everybody, they don't know how to make a pizza there!
What are your other cravings?
MC Roasted red peppers! I haven't had them in so long.
NC And McDonald's. I think I have probably more cravings than she does! We order McDonald's in the middle of the night, so we have to find a 24-hour one. She likes a cheeseburger and fries, and I always want to get a milk shake.
How is your body changing?
MC Well, there's the obvious weight gain. I'm looking forward to working out again! The progesterone makes you really, really bloated and super-ugh feeling.
You love fashion. What have you been wearing?
MC I've definitely changed my way of dressing a lot! Nothing fits right now, so around the house I wear pajamas. I have three sets of the same pair: It's like a little dress and these long, loose pants. And I'm constantly wearing a bra! TMI! But it's true. I need it for comfort.
Are you nervous about giving birth?
MC Yes! I'm very scared. I look at those people who give birth in the water, because that's my most comfortable place, but there's no way I would do that. The other thing is privacy. How do you have privacy in a hospital? I have to scope it out. I have a friend who just had a baby, and she had a whole suite. I'll need to explore that!
Do you know the sex of the baby?
MC We don't know.
NC We're just hoping for a beautiful and healthy baby!
What kind of parents do you want to be?
MC You always want to give your kids everything you ever wanted. I knew I didn't want to embark on this journey without a life partner, a husband, because I grew up in a single-parent situation. [Carey's parents divorced when she was 3.] My mom tried very hard to make everything nice, and she did a good job, but I always felt that if I ever had kids I'd give them as much normalcy as possible — which is difficult in this business!
What about you, Nick?
NC I learned so much from my father and my grandfather, so I want to apply everything that they taught me. And Will Smith, who discovered me, had been like a big brother to me since I was 17. He's done such a wonderful job with his kids. Mariah's going to be the most amazing mom ever. She's a nurturing spirit. She's the type of person who, no matter who comes around, wants to make sure everybody's all right.
MC I have a lot to learn. Being a parent is a huge responsibility.
Are you reading up on the baby's growth?
NC We're definitely doing our research! We have all the books. I'm an internet geek, so I'm always online. We get excited at every checkup — just the fact that it's been another week or another month and everything is A-OK. That's all we care about.
What are you most looking forward to about being parents?
NC Teaching my child about love and being the best role model I can possibly be.
MC The first thing that comes to mind is music. I would love to see if that is a factor, you know? Because I really do feel like that's something that's handed down, and it's-in-the-family thing. My mom's a singer, and we have a duet on my Christmas album.
When you look at Nick and think, I'm going to be the mother of his child, how do you feel?
MC It amazes me. He's a great person, and we have more in common than not. I know people initially were like, "What? Those two?" But I think people know us get it.

Mariah Readies for Next Stage: A Baby, Christmas Album
"Actually, I suppose that you'll be seeing more of me — when you see me," Carey quips.
The singer laughs easily, shortly after confirming what had long been rumored: that she is, at 40, expecting her first child. Carey and her husband of 2 ½ years, America's Got Talent host Nick Cannon, 30, broke the news in an interview that aired Thursday in part on Today.
Though it has been reported that she is about four months along, all Carey will say is that she's expecting in the spring. 'We don't know the sex yet," she adds. "I guess we should find out. But people didn't used to find out, you know."
Carey does allow that she already was pregnant while working on Merry Christmas II You, which she delivers Tuesday. It's her second holiday album and features a new version of "All I Want for Christmas Is You," her smash hit from 1994's Merry Christmas. The original version is No. 2 on Billboard's holiday chart, while the similarly bubbly new single Oh Santa– one of four new tunes on II You– is at No. 1.
"I was recording up to the last minute it was due" – the album, that is. "It was down to the wire," she says.
"I was staying up 24 hours a day, doing 'Auld Lang Syne' in one take. I just shot a video last night with my mom," former opera singer Patricia Carey, whose lustrous mezzo-soprano graces a medley of 'O Come All Ye Faithful' and 'The Hallelujah Chorus.'
"I've spoken about my mother's influence my whole life," Carey says. "So this was like coming full circle." And there's still more work to do: This weekend, Carey will tape a holiday TV special, Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to You, to air Dec. 13 on ABC.
Asked if morning sickness or exhaustion has complicated all this activity, Carey says: "It's more this constant feeling of ugh. There's always a little bit of nausea, but throwing up is bad for your voice – the reflux is terrible – so I've been trying to just keep calm, get through it."
Keeping a secret is 'stressful'
Carey concedes in a phone conversation that she had some anxiety about making her pregnancy public. "I can't remember the last time I was that nervous before an interview. I never get that way. But I had all this promotion (for the album) coming up, and it was like, how do we keep not saying anything? Honestly, I would have much rather waited before I had a party with the world about this. But you can only keep a secret for so long; it becomes stressful."
Carey had suffered a miscarriage, and "after our experience, Nick and I were careful to not just go off and call everybody the first time we took a pregnancy test." But her reluctance owed more generally to a desire for privacy. "I like to keep personal things personal. But I've learned there's not much that's personal in this business."
Dina Sansing, entertainment director for Us Weekly magazine, observes that Carey's condition "was the worst-kept secret out there. People had been speculating for months."
Sansing expects that the press will document this mom-to-be's progress as avidly as they have that of any expectant celeb lately. "Mariah is beloved by many, and she's had this crazy life that we've all followed. We're excited to see her take this next step, and we want to be a part of it."
Sansing adds that the pregnancy could make Carey, who has sold more than 63 million albums in her career, "more relatable. With someone who's such a superstar, there's always a question of, is she a diva, or one with the people? This makes her one of us. And it solidifies Nick and her as a couple."
Carey says her marriage to Cannon was a huge factor in her decision to have a baby.
"I would have never done this if I wasn't in a strong, grounded relationship. I know you can do it by yourself. I've seen that, and it's fine if it works for you," she says. "But I want my child to experience having a mother and father who live together and love each other, to feel secure in that."
Decorating a nursery will not be a problem for Carey, who is known for her love of butterflies and other fun, frolicsome things.
"Come on, this is me. I already have a Hello Kitty bathroom," she says.
But she says she's not unconcerned about the cosmetic changes that pregnancy brings. "It's hard when you have to be in the public eye, and everybody's a size 2 or a size 0. And you're like, 'Oh, I remember those days!' "
A creative outlet
Then there's the simple matter of resting. "That's the plan, to relax after the holidays. But as Nick says, it's just not realistic to try to get me to not do anything." This month she will launch a lifestyle collection on the Home Shopping Network, featuring shoes, jewelry and a fragrance. "I was looking at the boots, and they're really hot. So that will be an outlet for me, a way that I can keep being creative."
She's also keen to promote the new album. Its holiday predecessor has sold more than 5 million copies in 16 years. Carey executive-produced this successor with label chief and longtime creative associate Antonio "L.A." Reid. Track producers include other colleagues such as Jermaine Dupri and American Idol's Randy Jackson.
Jackson introduced Carey to another key member of the II You team: composer/lyricist/arranger Marc Shaiman, a prolific and witty veteran of theater, film and television. Shaiman co-wrote two tracks with Carey, "Christmas Time Is in the Air Again and One Child," and was a principal force in shaping the arrangements and orchestrations.
Shaiman and Carey bonded in part over a mutual affection for the Woody Allen movie Bullets Over Broadway. "I'd be quoting all the characters, doing all the voices," Carey recalls. "Marc is just hilarious. His e-mails are not to be believed. He's Jewish, and when we did 'One Child,' I said I wanted to make it about the Nativity. And at one point, he was like, 'Wait a minute – there's a king involved here?'"
When she first met Shaiman, "I told him that I was going for a classic feeling. I wanted the music to feel timeless, so that you couldn't pinpoint it as 2010."
For music critic J.D. Considine, a contributor to Canada's Globe and Mail, this approach is in keeping with the sensibility that made Carey's Merry Christmas "a classic holiday album – and there have been very few recorded in the past 30 years. Where so many artists try to avoid tradition and just make the Christmas carols sound like their current work, Mariah made an album that people would want to play at Christmas."
The holiday's true meaning
Carey says that flavor is even more pronounced on II You.
"It's festive and fun, but a lot of it is also spiritual in content. I wanted to address the real meaning of Christmas, with songs like 'The First Noel' and 'O Little Town of Bethlehem'," she says. "I think some people are scared to discuss what the holiday really means. I'm not trying to convert anybody (to Christianity). I'm just saying, this is me, this is what I feel."
In fact, the New Testament is cited in the album notes, with two excerpts from the Gospel of Luke.
The first begins, "This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." The second reads simply, "Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished!"
The baby is Jesus, of course. But the second quote, Carey allows, has special resonance, attached to the infant she'll soon be bundling up herself.
"I always love this time of year," she says. "Whether it's a good time or a bad time, I'm never just going to mope around on Christmas. But this year will be exceptionally meaningful. I'm just so grateful for everything."

Mariah Confirms: "Yes, We Are Pregnant!"
Carey told Bush -- in a segment which aired on TODAY Thursday morning -- that it's been a struggle to keep the news private. "It's been a long journey, but it's been tough because I've been trying to have ... to hold onto a shred of privacy. And that was not easy."
In the spirit of some privacy, Carey, who shared the news with Bush from her home in Tribeca, didn't divulge how far along she is. "It's still early, I'm expecting in the spring, I'll say that. I don't want to give too much of like, specific outlines."
Carey chose to share the happy news now because her new album, "Merry Christmas 2 U" drops next week. Her husband Nick Cannon, who was also on hand for the interview, describes the journey as an emotional one.
"Uh, it's absolutely emotional, but first, so many reasons I mean obviously the greatest gift on earth is a child," Cannon said. "But ... you know how much we have been through, you know."
Cannon is referring to something that's not been made public until now, that Carey suffered a miscarriage.
Two years ago, shortly after the couple's secret wedding, Carey and Cannon were in Monte Carlo for the World Music Awards when Carey took a pregnancy test, and it turned out to be positive. "Only one person knew about this and we were like, um, 'let's not tell anybody else,'" Carey said.
A little more than a month later, she miscarried. "It was really sad so we had to just, we had really to absorb this and take it in," Carey said. Cannon added, "And that's what I said, like her strength would literally be during the day so festive and smiling obviously for cameras and spending time with everyone and you know, literally that night crying herself to sleep."
Bush added on TODAY that the couple conceived naturally, and that they would not be finding out whether the baby was a boy or a girl before its birth. For more details, tune in to "Access Hollywood" Thursday.
Be sure to tune in to Access Hollywood to watch the last two parts of the interview:

After weeks of speculation, Carey confirmed on Thursday that she and her husband, Nick Cannon, are expecting their first child. But before her spring due date, Carey will hatch her first lifestyle collection featuring jewelry, footwear and fragrance on HSN on Nov. 29.
Set for HSN |
The move makes Carey the newest addition to the celebrity designer circuit, but unlike many of her contemporaries, she isn't taking the traditional retail route. Instead, she's going straight to the consumer, and is sticking to a genre she is comfortable with – TV, as well as the Internet.
In an exclusive interview, Carey said she is always eager to push her creativity into new directions, and after meeting HSN Inc. chief executive officer Mindy Grossman, she jumped at the opportunity to develop her own collection of shoes and baubles, and enhance her fragrance offering.
Carey said she developed a more significant interest in jewelry through her friend Joan Boyce, one of the designers in HSN's lineup.
"I never even used to wear jewelry," the singer said. "I used to wear baby earrings, tiny things. When I started to get into jewelry a little more, Joan was working with HSN, and that's how I met Mindy Grossman."
Two weeks later, Grossman flew to Los Angeles to meet with Carey, and the two hit it off immediately, spending hours at the singer's house and, more specifically, in her shoe closet. By the end of the day, the duo concluded that the time was ripe for Carey to extend her profile into a lifestyle brand.
"She is personable, funny and smart and obviously creative and talented, and we just talked about what she is passionate about – shoes, jewelry, fragrance and her music," Grossman said. "I said, 'Why can't we do it all?' She is magnetic, and I think this has the opportunity not just to appeal to our existing customer base, but also a lot of new customers."
Carey is arguably the biggest star on HSN's roster, with a global reach and recognition like few of her contemporaries on the network, which include notables like Iman, Twiggy, Wolfgang Puck, Randolph Duke, Rebecca Moses and Loulou de la Falaise.
Since launching her career in 1990, Carey has become the world's most successful female recording artist, selling more than 200 million albums; she has tried her hand at acting, and while her star turn in "Glitter" was widely panned, she more recently drew critical acclaim for her role as a social worker in "Precious."
In 2007, she launched her first fragrance with Elizabeth Arden, and the process inspired her to think about extending her creative reach.
"From the inception of working with Elizabeth Arden, I wanted the fragrances to represent what I really like," she said. "It really opened my eyes and opened the doors for me in terms of starting to think about going into other creative ventures."
The lifestyle collection is Mariah, all the way, with sparkling, pavé-set "initial" pendants, butterfly earrings, fur-trimmed suede boots and quilted nylon boots wrapped in chains. The shoes will be priced from about $69.90 to $199.90, while the jewelry will be available from $39.99 to $199.95. Carey will also offer a new version of her Luscious Pink fragrance, and 25 $275 bottles of her Luscious Pink Deluxe Edition fragrance will feature a Swarovski Elements-encrusted butterfly with a personal note from the singer.
Carey admitted she likes to channel surf and often finds herself stopping on HSN, particularly when her friend Boyce is on. "It's a classic, you have to keep it on," she said. "I do a very good impression of her."
The practice will come in handy on Nov. 29, though Carey said she had no preshow jitters despite this being her first time selling on TV. "I think it's just about being yourself, explaining the different products and enjoying yourself," said Carey. "If I take it so seriously, and say, 'Oh my god, It's a Shakespearean moment,' it's not going to be fun. I am looking at it as something fun. This is an extracurricular activity for me and I am looking forward to it. It's another creative outlet for me."
She talks about her shoe and jewelry designs like a pro – with the added experience of having worn hundreds of designer shoes in her two-decade career. Her shoe closet is filled with styles from Manolo Blahnik to Jimmy Choo, and she particularly loves Yves Saint Laurent heels. She said people compliment her on her shoe closet all the time.
"They say, 'I love your shoe closet. I saw it in Architectural Digest, on 'Cribs.' I saw it on Oprah or Barbara Walters," she said.
The songstress prefers platform heels over flats. "Most people are comfortable in flats, and I always say my foot is naturally made to be in high heels.
"When I don't have a platform, we could have a traumatic moment, like a semi-spill on stage, which nobody wants," Carey added. "A platform shoe grounds you a little more. I try to make my designs more practical as well as pretty. One of the things I thought about was how I could do affordable, really nice, comfortable shoes that are still flattering to the leg."
Carey is also developing a signature for her jewelry, and the butterfly, her favorite motif, plays a prominent feature. Among her favorites is the platinum and pink diamond engagement ring Cannon designed for her and a butterfly ring Van Cleef & Arpels gave her a decade ago.
She also has a penchant for vintage jewelry. "It always seems that if you have an amazing vintage Cartier bracelet or a signed Tiffany piece, you can't go wrong," she said. "You just can't do the same type of filigree work anymore. A lot of that inspired my own pieces. They have a modern twist, but that's my natural inclination."
Carey said she could see the line expand into new areas for her second HSN moment next year. She didn't rule out doing an apparel line in the future. "I am definitely looking forward to a long relationship with HSN," she said.
She was hard-pressed to narrow down her list of her favorite designers, though a few names made the cut. "I love Karl Lagerfeld as a person and as a designer, and I have some vintage Chanel suits that are gorgeous," she said. "I am not a big bag person, but if I do carry one, you know that I love it. I have a lot of Chanel bags, including one that I saved from years ago. It is wooden and looks a little bit like a lunch box. I also have a lot of Judith Leiber."
Among her favorite dresses, she cited the Nile Cmylo gown she wore at her 2008 wedding; the Dolce & Gabbana number she sported in her video for "Honey," and a red gown she wore to the 2006 MTV Movie Awards.
Like most celebrities, Carey has had her share of "fashion don't" moments, which she won't point to right now. "If I highlight those moments, you will feature them, darling," she said.
That said, Carey isn't fearful of the fashion police. Far from it, she said. "You get photographed everywhere," she said. "You look at it one day, and it's gone the next, or they can dwell on it for a week. Within a couple of days, there is somebody else doing something in the world that is a little more interesting than a bad outfit."
Grossman declined to give projections for the line, but said "it is projected to be very significant or we wouldn't have done it on such an important day as Cyber Monday."
HSN will support the launch in multiple ways. The network will sell Carey's new CD, "Merry Christmas II You," which is being released by Island Def Jam Music Group on Tuesday, and is also playing her first single from it, "Oh Santa," in its holiday promo.
Carey is particularly proud of her new work. "I was really inspired by Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby, and all the classic Christmas music that was just timeless," she said of the project. "I wanted it to be festive-meets-timeless. It's everything from a more soulful moment to a duet I did with my mother, who is an opera singer. It was very interesting and different, and for me that is a really nice jewel of the album."
As for her budding fashion career, Carey already comes with an accessory that is quite common in fashion circles – the diva moniker. "One of the things people need to do is look up the actual definition of diva," she said. "The first thing is a talented female vocalist. That's what I like it to be. The second is a difficult female. Whatever. Everybody is a diva these days, and most people are trying to get to that status, so, I am a diva if that makes people happy. I think, mainly, that I try to be a good person above that."

Good morning Gaston family!
Mariah Carey joins for 'Extreme Makeover' surprise
(Alabama Live)
Pop star Mariah Carey showed up today to surprise a male cheerleader and former Alabama A&M student who is going to receive a new home from the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" program.
Finis Gaston of Pensacola was coaching a cheerleading session in Baker, where he takes care of his niece and nephews, when Carey broke the good news to the Gaston family.
Now it's up to Heritage Homes of Mobile to complete a house for the Gastons by Sunday.
"We are ready to give Finis Gaston and his family a fresh start here in Pensacola,” said Frank Lott, III, Heritage Homes' president. “His positive attitude and big heart will be the inspiration that carries our team of builders and volunteers as we take on this weekʼs build."
Gaston was raised by a single mother in a poor neighborhood. His mom also took care of his young niece and two nephews. When Gaston was 16, the straight A-student and sports enthusiast tried out for the Baker School cheerleading team.
After the coach saw his sky-high jump and perfect toe-touch, she volunteered to pay for everything he needed to be on the team, according to a Heritage Homes news release. Gaston made school history as the first male cheerleader and his confidence and sense of humor made him a school favorite. His dream to go to college and earn a degree in social work came true when he was discovered by a football scout, who offered Gaston a full scholarship to Alabama A&M University.
With just one year left to graduation, Gaston's beloved mother died unexpectedly. Although he was living his dream, he left college to return home and care for his niece and nephews so that they would not be sent to foster care.
In addition to his job serving lunches at Baker School, Gaston is a volunteer coach for a local area girlsʼ cheerleading team at the Baker Area Youth Association. Under his guidance, he has led their team to win local competitions. Gaston opened a gymnastics business called Finest Tumblers, but he had to shut it down when the building was recently sold.
When Finest Tumblers was shut down, Gaston lost the income that he planned to use to make his familyʼs home safe and livable.
Finis and his niece, 18-year-old Jasqulon Gaston, her baby boy, LaRon and Gaston's nephews: Tyshun Morris, 15 and Tyvun Morris, 8, will go on vacation to Disney World. While they are gone, design team leader Ty Pennington and designers Michael Moloney, Tracy Hutson and Johnny Littlefield will join with Heritage Homes and its staff and volunteers to build the structure.

LA Reid to Host MCIIY Listening Party in NY on Oct. 20
Invites have gone out for an October 20th listening session in New York for Carey's new holiday album, "Merry Christmas II You."
Island Def Jam chief L.A. Reid is hosting the event, and Carey will be there to meet and greet friends, family, and radio types.
Unless she's hidden, or a hologram, or sits behind a large pocket book all night, there are undoubtedly going to be questions. And maybe an answer. Recent pictures indicate that our lovely Mariah looks very little like the photo on the invite itself right now.
Remember: Mariah told us through her rep a few weeks ago that she was very "superstitious" about discussing such matters.
Meantime, Mariah's first single from the new album, "Oh Santa," is pretty catchy. Expect to hear it four times a day between Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Listen to "Oh Santa"!
Sing along with the lyrics below!
OH SANTA
Santa's gonna come and make him mine this Christmas
Santa's gonna come and make him mine, mine
Oh Santa
Santa's gonna come and make him mine this Christmas
Santa's gonna come and make him mine, mine
Oh Santa
Santa
If you get this letter
Won't you help me out
I know you're kinda busy with your elves right now
And I don't know how
You do the things you do while I sleep on Christmas eve
But it's amazing
And I bet that you could bring me back my baby
Because every time I see Christmas lights
I feel this burn inside
And I just can't take it
I saw them shopping last week
And his new girl was so bleak
And then I swore to myself
Santa's gonna come and make him mine this Christmas night
Oh oh oh
Santa's gonna come and make you mine this Christmas
Santa's gonna come and make you mine, oh oh oh
Santa's gonna come and make you mine this Christmas night
Oh Santa
I heard that it's really gonna snow this year
So I hope Rudolph and them all the 8 reindeer
Get you safely here
So you can scoop him up
And scoop him right down my chimney
I've been really, really, really good this year
So put on that red suit and make him appear
Make this Christmas cheer
Just ain't the same without my baby
Come on oh Kris Kringle send me help
They say it's unrealistic
But I believe in you Saint Nick
So grant this wish for me right quick
Santa won't you come and make him mine this Christmas night
Oh oh oh
Santa's gonna come and make you mine this Christmas
Santa's gonna come and make you mine, oh oh oh
Santa's gonna come and make you mine this Christmas night
Oh Santa!
Oh Santa Claus
If you get this letter
Please don't make me wait
Cause all December I'll be counting down the days
So hop on your sleigh
I promise that I won't forget the milk and cookies
The trees all sparkly and gold
But inside I feel so cold
So soon as you leave the North Pole
Santa won't you come and make him mine this Christmas
Santa's gonna come and make you mine oh oh oh
Santa's gonna come and make you mine this Christmas
Santa's gonna come and make you mine oh oh oh
Santa's gonna come and make you mine, mine.

Mariah to Do a Christmas Show in November
This morning on his 92.3 NOW show, Nick Cannon revealed that there are plans for Mariah to hold a Christmas-themed show in November. Venue has not been determined yet but according to him, it's either in Los Angeles or New York.
Nick Cannon: "There is some plan for a big holiday show (in November). As you know, her Christmas album comes out November 2nd and you'll be seeing a lot of her, shall we say, in the near future. I actually don't know the location because I've heard Los Angeles, I've heard New York. They're still trying to figure some things out but I think she would actually rather be in New York."

Mariah Carey - "Merry Christmas II You" - November 2
"ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU" - ALL-TIME #1 PLATINUM STANDARD - IS RE-RECORDED IN BRAND NEW VERSION FOR NEW ALBUM
INCLUDES FOUR NEW ORIGINAL SONGS WRITTEN BY MARIAH, INCLUDING THE FIRST SINGLE "OH SANTA"
As autumn leaves begin to fall, international superstar Mariah Carey puts the finishing touches on MERRY CHRISTMAS II YOU, her second career album of holiday tunes, arriving November 2nd on the Island Def Jam Music Group. Highlighting the long-awaited new album is a brand new recording of Mariah's all-time standard, "All I Want For Christmas Is You."
In addition to traditional yuletide fare - "The First Noel," "Little Drummer Boy," "O Little Town of Bethlehem," "O Come All Ye Faithful" and more - MERRY CHRISTMAS II YOU also contains four original songs composed by Mariah, including the new single, "Oh Santa," and many more surprises for the fans. Producers on the new album include American Idol's Randy Jackson, multi-platinum hit-making producer Jermaine Dupri, James Poyser (acclaimed producer for Aretha Franklin, The Roots, Lauryn Hill and more), and five-time Oscar nominee and Grammy/Tony/Emmy award winning composer Marc Shaiman.
Since it was first released, "All I Want For Christmas Is You," written by Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff, has become one of the essential musical hallmarks of the holiday season, and continues to set sales records each year. The song hit #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Recurrents chart every year from 2005 to 2008. After ringtones began to be charted in 2006, "All I Want For Christmas Is You" hit #1 for the next three consecutive holiday seasons. It became the first seasonal Mastertone to be certified RIAA gold (2006) and RIAA platinum (2007), and is ranked as the top-selling seasonal ringtone of all-time. "All I Want For Christmas is You" was the featured single from MERRY CHRISTMAS, which has sold over 12 million to date.
MERRY CHRISTMAS II YOU is Mariah Carey's 13th studio album, and follows up her worldwide multi-million-selling Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel (released September 2009), her multi-platinum E=MC² (2008), and worldwide 10 million selling The Emancipation Of Mimi (2005). The Emancipation Of Mimi generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), two #1 singles, and countless more honors during its 18-month chart stay. Soundscan's biggest-selling album of 2005, Mimi featured "We Belong Together" (Grammy winner for Best Female R&B Vocal and Best R&B Song) and "Don't Forget About Us," Mariah's 16th and 17th #1 career singles, respectively. They tied one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard Hot 100 history, Elvis Presley's 17 #1's.
Three years later, Mariah surpassed Elvis when "Touch My Body" (from E=MC²) became her 18th #1 Hot 100 hit. "Touch My Body" spent two weeks at the top, Mariah's 78th and 79th cumulative career weeks at #1, which tied Elvis' long-standing all-time high of 79 weeks at #1, as calculated by Billboard. Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 50 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles' all-time high of 20 #1 hits. The success of E=MC² brought total sales of Mariah's albums, singles and videos to more than 200 million worldwide, distancing her even further from the pack as the top-selling female recording artist in history.

Mariah on Capri Magazine Cover
Mariah Carey - A pop icon in the motion-picture world
Mariah Carey loves Capri. She loves those small restaurants, that crisp air even in wintertime, Capri's silent wilderness out of season. However, the last time she was seen on the island for the Capri, Hollywood Festival curated by her friend Pascal Vicedomini, she was certainly not alone. When we got the chance to talk to her, to spend a few moments with one of the greatest legends of contemporary pop music, she struck us as being an extraordinarily easy person, in spite of the 250 million records sold worldwide and her tremendous media presence, although she is one of the sexiest women in the world. She is now busy writing the lyrics for her new album, but we mostly talked about films, about the new film she will be appearing in and about her small and yet incisive role in Precious. And she wanted to say quite clearly that: "I don't care to be a star. I would rather play in small, independent movies, but telling a story I like. Films that people should watch because they are important".
Precious won two Academy Awards: for best supporting actress (Mo'Nique) and for best adapted screenplay. It made $ 50 million, five times as much as it cost. The film was awarded its first prize in Capri, the Capri Award given to Mariah Carey.
The film tells the story of an obese, illiterate young girl who suffers sexual abuse from her mother and father and lives in the ghetto of Harlem. What does such a powerful and shocking film have to do with a pop and media icon such as Mariah Carey? Nothing, on the face of it. Nonetheless, Mariah took up the challenge: she accepted to appear ugly, without make-up, wearing shapeless clothes twice her size, shabby, with a fixed gaze onto a horrible life. She plays the role of a social worker. The girl asks her: "What are you? Black, Hispanic, what?" Actually, that is a question that crosses your mind when you look at Mariah Carey. Irish, Venezuelan and Afro-American blood runs in her veins. Actually, and especially face-to-face, she is simply beautiful.
Miss Carey, you chose to play a small role in an independent film. A strong choice.
It was an instinctive choice, but a clear one too. Like with music: I consider myself more of a songwriter than a singer. I've been writing songs since I was six. I am not obsessed with my looks. Some pop stars change their look over and over again. I don't. It was the same for the film. I was looking for an interesting, powerful story, not for one that would make me look pretty.
The film deals with incestuous relationships. A very serious issue.
Yes, the film is about hard experiences in life that leave their mark on you. Films cannot merely be an escape from real life.
You are nearly unrecognizable in the film...
The film director told me: "Believe me, not even your mother is going to recognize you!". And he was right. When I watch myself on screen, I say: "Who is this woman?"
Have you been influenced by a specific period of Italian cinema?
The movies of the sixties, La dolce vita or La Ciociara of which we see a scene in Precious. I've always been moved by those films. I love classic movies, in general. The great American and Italian classics.
Which film directors would you like to work with in the future?
If I were free to choose anyone, Scorsese or Woody Allen. But I'm more interested in the film's story, in important stories. I view acting not as a whim of fancy, but as a well thought-out choice.
As is the case with Barbra Streisand or Diana Ross..
Yes, and there are other singers who are also amazing actresses.
This film conveys an image of you very different from the one we are used to seeing at your concerts.
I am Mariah at the concerts as well as in the movies. I'm interested in powerful stories that make people reflect on what they have just seen. I could even play myself in a musical, but I enjoy transforming myself into characters. I'm still learning, I don't want to take advantage of my popularity and I don't want to play the usual roles.
What do you dream of as an actress?
I dream of playing characters who are very different from me.

New Mariah Carey Lollipop Bling Fragrances
When the singer Mariah Carey and her husband, the actor and rapper Nick Cannon, appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" last September, Mr. Cannon told of how he proposed in 2008: he presented Ms. Carey with a Ring Pop, the gem-shaped lollipop on a ring. Inside the package was a proper engagement ring. Upon hearing the story, executives at Elizabeth Arden, the cosmetics company that since 2007 has sold a Mariah Carey fragrance collection, began to develop a proposal of their own.
Mariah Carey's Lollipop Bling, three fragrances that Elizabeth Arden based on candy flavors and that will appear in stores soon, is the product of a partnership with the Topps Company, which makes Ring Pops. Print advertisements for the perfume in August issues of publications like Cosmopolitan, Elle and People Style Watch will show Ms. Carey wearing three Ring Pops.
The fragrances, named after Ms. Carey's songs "Ribbon," "Honey" and "Mine Again," will be introduced by July 1 at department stores including Macy's and Dillard's, where with each purchase consumers will get a free Ring Pop.
Early next year, before Valentine's Day, when romantics flock to both the perfume and candy aisles, the fragrances will be available in mass retailers like Wal-Mart and in drug stores. There, stand-alone display racks will feature both the fragrances and Ring Pops, with the candies in a special "Bling Collection" three-pack that promotes the fragrances. Ms. Carey was not available for comment.
A one-ounce bottle of the perfume will retail for $35, the 1.5-ounce candy three-pack will cost about $1.50.
"Topps sells tens of millions of units of candy," said E. Scott Beattie, chief executive at Elizabeth Arden, which also has fragrance licensing deals with celebrities including Britney Spears, Danielle Steel and Elizabeth Taylor. "Combining their customer base with Mariah Carey's fan base and our fragrance base is a great way to cross-promote all the brands."
Since its introduction three years ago, the Mariah Carey line, with three fragrances, has grossed more than $150 million, Elizabeth Arden said.
In 2009, the company spent $5.2 million advertising the perfume, while Topps spent $750,000 advertising Ring Pops, according to Kantar Media, a unit of WPP.
Noreen Dodge, senior vice president of global marketing at the cosmetics company, said that the current fragrances draw the younger end of the singer's fan base of 18- to 45-year-olds, mostly those 18 to 24, and that the new ones will appeal to still younger fans.
"We think it will bring an even younger customer into the Mariah Carey franchise," Ms. Dodge said. The Lollipop Bling line will be advertised in youth-oriented publications where ads for the celebrity's fragrances had not previously appeared, like Seventeen and Teen Vogue. But Ms. Dodge emphasized that these "are not your typical teeny-bopper fragrances."
While the scents "take a candy element as a thread to be woven in a fragrance," they do so in a way that "elevates candy into a prestige environment," she said.
Laurent Le Guernec, a perfumer at International Flavors and Fragrances Inc. who designed the fragrances, said that while typical candy flavors like grape and banana have "cheap and very common" scents, he was able to build on the Blue Raspberry Ring Pop flavor for one fragrance, Ribbon. Into the "juiciness and sweetness notes" of that flavor Mr. Le Guernec said he layered floral notes.
While the Ribbon fragrance is reminiscent of a particular Ring Pop flavor, the other scents have notes only broadly associated with candy, like chocolate, raspberry, pineapple and honey. The new perfumes are far from juvenile, said Mr. Le Guernec, who before joining International Flavors and Fragrances designed popular scents including Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker.
Founded in 1938 by brothers Abram, Ira, Philip and Joseph Shorin, Topps Chewing Gum, as it was known then, introduced Bazooka bubble gum in 1947, and in 1953 began including a tiny comic featuring Bazooka Joe, who was modeled after Joseph Shorin. The company introduced its popular baseball cards in 1951 and the Ring Pop in 1977.
Today the Ring Pop (tag line: "The flavor's always on hand") is turning more mouths blue than ever. Ari Weinstock, director of marketing for the confectionery division of Topps, said that the brand was forecasting record annual revenue this year. In the 52 weeks that ended May 16, it posted $14.9 million in revenue, outpacing other novelty candies like Pez and Pop Rocks, according to SymphonyIRI Group, a market data company whose totals do not include Wal-Mart.
In 2007, Topps was acquired by an investment firm led by the former Walt Disney chief executive Michael D. Eisner, who is chairman of the company. Ryan O'Hara, the former president of the TV Guide Network, was installed as chief executive in February.
Recent advertising campaigns have "played up the emotional connection that people have with Ring Pops," Mr. Weinstock said. "What we hit upon is that the Ring Pop is ultimately the only candy that you can show off, unlike a chocolate bar that you just consume," he said. "It's a candy that you put on your finger and flaunt, and it transforms you from just eating a piece of candy to being in the spotlight."
Now the brand itself will be in the spotlight, thanks to its association with Ms. Carey and Elizabeth Arden, and will provide Ring Pop samples to shoppers at retailers like Macy's, where the candy has never been sold.
"It's a case," Mr. Weinstock said, "of one plus one plus one equals 10."
